How about the new IAU plan?
Ceres and Charon are suddenly planets, but Sedna, Quaoar, Ixion, Orcus, FYA 2005 et al have no resolution?

Yeah, I could do that, but halfway through my rant I'd say 'screw it' and link to the Bad Astronomer's rant instead, which would be far better than anything I could come up with.
And this is coming from someone who cowrote a planetarium show about the subject.
